William M. "Wild Bill" Mourer

Sioux Falls- William M. "Wild Bill" Mourer, 62, died Fri., Nov. 3, 2017 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX after a 28 month battle with leukemia. A Celebration of Life service will be 11 AM Sat., Dec. 2 at George Boom Funeral Home & Crematory, Sioux Falls. Bill's family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service. His cremated body will be interred at the Richard S. Mourer Memorial Garden in St. Richard's Episcopal Cemetery, Round Rock, TX.

William Michael "Wild Bill" Mourer, son of Howard and Marcella Jane (Feig) Mourer, was born May 24, 1955 in Madison, WI.

Bill served with the U.S. Marine Corps in Japan, Okinawa and the Philippines from 1973-77. He also graduated from Kubasaki High School in Japan while stationed there. Bill then attended Mitchell Area VoTech powerline school, National Business College, and Oglala Lakota College on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Bill retired from the United States Postal Service.

Bill was a true patriot. He initiated and devoted time to a website for veterans, "Our Freedom, Our Heroes". He was also devoted to the POW-MIA cause and did his best to make certain they were not forgotten. Bill will be remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his sister, NaNine Kay Mourer, Maple Grove, MN; two children, Mike (Danielle) Mourer and grandson, Garrett, Sioux Falls, Sarah (Rick) Sutton, Estelline, SD; a nephew, Don (Julie) Donaldson and children, Ethan and Kelsie, Maple Grove, MN; a sister-in-law, Robin Mueller, 2 nephews, Preston (Sarah) Mourer and daughter, Madison and Nick Mourer, and a niece, Laura Mourer, all of Texas; 3 step-sisters, Barb Staudenmaier, of Arkansas, Cathy Reetz, of California, Nancy Winness, Sioux Falls; his fiancée, Nancy Stephens, Sioux Falls; his special military "brothers", David Hopkins, of Texas, Ted Ramos, of Wisconsin, Bernard "Magic" Cashaw, of Texas, Gunny "B", of California; and a special friend, Jan Eidsness, Sioux Falls.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; a younger brother, Richard "Dick" Mourer; a niece, Christina Donaldson; his step-mother, Betty Reetz; a step-sister, Vicki Reetz; and a step-brother, Jeff Reetz.
