Diane Leaders Lloyd September 1, 1943 to July 5, 2014

Diane Jean Lloyd, of Groveland, California, died at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota the afternoon of July 5, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Diane Jean Leaders was born to Lloyd and Mildred (Larson) Leaders in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on September 1, 1943. She grew up in Sioux Falls graduating from Washington High School in 1961. She attended Mount Marty College and later graduated from San Francisco State. In 1968 she married her high school sweetheart John R. Lloyd Jr. She spent most of her married life in California, living in Los Angeles and San Francisco and retiring in Groveland in the foothills of Yosemite National Park. In 2000 they made Sioux Falls their summer home so she could be near her family.

She was devoted to animal causes and spent more than 15 years as a volunteer at the Humane Society of Tuolumne County as well as contributing to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. She loved all animals and toured "America the Beautiful" in their motorhome christened "Noah's Arch" so their pets could travel with them.

Diane was a dedicated golfer and past president of the 18 hole ladies club. She loved the out doors and flowers and was a member of the garden club. Her home was on tour in Pine Mountain Lake in California.

She was preceded in death by her mother; also her sister Janice and husband David Oberlin.

Survivors include her husband, father and his wife Maxine, sisters Laura and husband Bob Kogel, Jackie and husband Jeff Thomas, brother Alan Leaders and wife Pam. She also leaves behind John's two sons, John R. Lloyd III and Peter Shane Lloyd through whom she has enjoyed 7 loving grand children and 2 great grand children. She also has many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held later in July in Sioux Falls and this fall in Groveland, California. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the humane society would be in keeping with Diane's love for animals. www.heritagesfsd.com.
