Helen A. Jorgensen Obituary
Helen A. Jorgensen

Our world changed on March 6 when a very special inspiring lady of 96 years passed on to join other loved ones including her husband and two sons. Helen Antoinette Lang was born November 16, 1916 to Edna and Edgar Lang. Honorary parents were Charolette and Leonard Schager.

Helen had a remarkable life which included growing up in a house that became the Sioux Falls YWCA. She met her husband Berl at a SDSU dance which eventually led to a fulfilling 65 years of marriage. Helen loved good dance partners and she found one in Berl. Into this marriage they shared their lives with their four children, Steve, Kay, Brad and Jan.

Helen's life was very active even up to the time of her passing. Her physical age did not diminish her mental acuteness, and her passion for social activity. You could often find her playing cards with her Bridge group, along with Mah Jong, and Texas Hold-em. She was blessed with a generous array of friendships including her PEO group, Children's Care auxiliary, Sanford Wellness swimming group, YWCA and her Touchmark Waterford wine group. Helen's creative spirit was spent forming clay into jewelry, pottery and sculptures. Both Helen and Berl were snowbirds and enjoyed their trips to Green Valley, Arizona where they both shared their passion for creative projects.

At Christmas a new fast paced game was introduced to the family. Helen did not miss a beat with her speed and mental agility. Over 20 people of all ages participated and Helen surpassed all by winning the game.

She marveled on how much Sioux Falls had changed and felt that the community was evolving in the arts and entertainment. Her 96th birthday was spent watching the annual Christmas lighting of Falls Park joined with her lifetime friend of 62 years, Kathy Everist. They shared wine and hor d' ouers in the back seat of the car and giggled the night away.

Helen is survived by her two daughters, Kay Gordon, Davis, SD. Jan (Dave) Buehner, Canistota, SD; an honorary sister, Connie Smith, Chandler, Az; daughters- in- law, Susan Jorgensen, Cheryl Jorgensen; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Welcoming Helen into heaven is husband, Berl Jorgensen; sons, Steven and Brad Jorgensen; son-in-law, Dale Gordon, sisters, Phylis Lang and Charolette Jenkins; brother, Reed Lang who just recently passed on at age 98; and Erin, Helen's Shih Tzu dog who was a loving companion.

Special thanks to Touchmark All Saints, Compassionate Care Hospice, Deb and Jeanne.

We will miss that mischievous gleam in those big brown eyes so we honor her spirit and humor with a celebration of life at Touchmark Waterford. Memorial services will be Saturday March 9 at 1:00 at All Saints Chapel at Touchmark Waterford, 111 West 17th Street, Sioux Falls, SD. Family will be present to greet friends following the memorial service for refreshments and hors d'oeuvres.

"Dance-always dance, whether with your feet or in your heart."
