Peggy Hillman Obituary

Peggy Hillman

Peggy Jean Hillman, 89, of Viborg, formerly of Howard, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Avera Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 11am Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Howard with burial to follow in the Canova Cemetery, Canova. Visitation will begin Monday, 5pm with a Prayer service at 7pm, at Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard. Peggy Jean Rehfeldt was born October 26, 1926 at Oldham to Paul and Lena (Lewis) Rehfeldt. As a young lady, the family moved to Howard. Peggy attended school and graduated from Howard High School in 1944. Peggy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Vincent Dayton Hillman on September 26, 1944. The couple lived near Winfred. She enjoyed helping on the farm and worked at the Good Samaritan Center, Howard for 30 plus years. Peggy enjoyed crocheting, doing puzzles, playing the organ and harmonica, and gardening, especially attending to her flowers. Peggy will be greatly missed by family members and people that knew her. Peggy always looked forward to family gatherings, as then she could spoil the grand and great grandchildren.

Those grateful for having shared in her life include her children: Jeanne (Howard) Friederich of Parkston, SD; David (Mary) Hillman of Brandon, SD; Tim (Lori) Hillman of Sioux Falls, SD; Mary (William) Friederich of Tripp, SD; Deanna (Dan) Larson of Brandon, SD; Tom (Gail) Hillman of Mitchell, SD; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vincent (1994), a grandson Mark Frederick, and two sisters Dorothy and Lavida.

So sorry to hear of your mom's passing, Tim. Jim and I were thinking of you, Lori, and the kids this weekend. We pray for God's peace to be on your family.

We were so sorry to hear that Peggy had passed away. We knew her from Bethany in Sioux Falls. We had so much fun going to the Turner County Fair, out for ice cream, to soup and pie suppers and up to Flandreau to listen to Sherwin Linton. Peggy was so much fun to be around. It wasn't too long ago we visited her in Viborg. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Deepest sympathy to Peggy's family. She was a wonderful person. We sat together every Sunday in Church at Blessed Redeemer in Brandon SD. We also served many meals together for Vacation Bible School and other events. She was such a joy to work with....and made the most delicious food. I have thought of her so often in the last few years, but because of limited health issues, we didn't see each other. I did miss her during this time. I will always treasure our friendship that we enjoyed together at Blessed Redeemer.

So sorry for your loss, Vince and Peg were always fun to be around, and good friends of my parents (Bob and Evelyn Lind).
