Rula Mae Hatch
Rula Mae (Facer) Hatch, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017 at her home in Sioux Falls, SD.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00pm, Monday, January 23, 2017 at the United Church of Christ in Vermillion, with Pastor Steve Miller officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services. Burial will follow in Bluffview Cemetery at Vermillion.
Rula Mae Facer was born October 31, 1925 in Samaria, Idaho to Willard and Lucy (La Von) Facer. She resided in Malad City, Idaho with her parents and six siblings on their family ranch.
In 1944 at the young age of 17, she met a very handsome 22-year-old soldier at a church dance. A few months later, on January 1, 1945 they were married at the church parsonage in Wakonda, SD. They worked side by side in the family furniture business until they both retired in 1983. The couple lived in Vermillion until Ardell's death in December of 2013. Rula moved to the Inn at Westport in Sioux Falls in February of 2014.
Rula spent her free time in her garden, playing golf, bridge and reading. She was a member of the Wakonda Women's Auxiliary. After moving to Vermillion she became very active with the University attending all athletic functions with Ardell and as a member of the Coyoettes. She was actively involved in the United Church of Christ and especially loved the Christmas Eve candle service.
As busy as she was with her many interests her main true love was her family. The preparations for holidays or just quick drop-ins were always to perfection and nothing brightened her face more than seeing her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. A favorite quote regarding her grandchildren was, "we didn't spoil them, we just over loved them".
Rula is survived by her two daughters; Kim & Guy Di Benedetto, Pierre, SD, Natalie & Bob Sturm of Sioux Falls, SD, 6 grandchildren; Nicole & Jeremy Solberg, Wabasha, MN, Todd & Bri Sturm, Sioux Falls, Lindsey & JB. Shepard, Centennial CO, Sara & Lee Jefferson, Lee's Summit, MO, Scott Feller, Ferney, SD, Natasha Swanson, Conde, SD, Angela & Chris Smith, Pierre also 13 great-grandchildren, one brother Sherm, one sister Carol and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ardell, daughter Paula, and brothers Elmo, Neal, Jack and Alma.

To Kim and the entire family-
So sorry to hear of your loss. Rula was such a wonderful lady with a smile for everyone. She and Ardel were such great friends to my parents for years. They made decades of memories both in Vermillion and in Florida! Prayers of comfort for all.
