I have known Carol since we served together in the USN, commencing in 1984. She became my daughter's Navy Godmother. We laughed and cried together many times throughout the past 30+ years. She, Roger and the kids came to VA Beach to visit us, when I was transferred there. I have never met a more down-to-earth, loving, compassionate person than Carol. I just learned of her passing today and am devastated. Ironically and sadly, her passing was the day after my daughter's birthday. Every September, without fail, we would call to remind each other to get a mammogram and a gyno exam. The conversations always started with one of saying "make your appointment." In 2010, hers was clear, mine was not. Thanks to Carol and that annual phone call, I had early detection and am still here today, a Survivor! Carol taught me, over the years that no matter how bad things were, we could always find the silver lining and "carry on." We could just call each other, no matter how much time elapsed and pick up where we left off.....that is what friendship is all about. Love to Roger, Timmy, Johnny and Allison. Liz

What a blessing it was to know Carol. Such a beautiful soul. I knew her as a hardworking professional Personnelman in the U.S. Navy. CJ was always cheerful, energetic and willing to go out of her way to help others. She gave so much during her life tending and giving comfort to the infirmed. Her smile and personality were infectious. So happy her beloved Cavs were champions this year just like her. She raised and nurtured a beautiful family and loved all the special holiday traditions. My heartfelt condolences to Roger and her family. May the light of her love continue to shine on you all. God Bless

Prayers to Carol's family. We were stationed together on the USS Norton Sound. She was also a brides maid at my wedding. I haven't seen Carol since 1986, but will never forget her beautiful smile and free spirit. Goodbye sweet Carol...

Although I didn't get to spend as much time with Carol as I wish I had, the hours we did share were filled with laughter and affection. I'll always cherish her kindness, warm heart, and sense of humor. She may be physically out of sight, but her spiritual personality will forever live in my heart. My condolences to Roger, the kids, and the rest of the family. God bless you all.

Carol and Roger were some of the first people we meet when we moved to the area eight years ago. I remember how she welcomed us to her home and we made an instant connection. It was always evident how much she loved her family. May happy memories fill you all with joy and sustain you through this difficult time. My heart breaks for each of you. Sending my love, and prayers.

One of my fondest memories of carol is dancing around her kitchen table with her and her daughter Alison while she was cooking dinner. It was the middle of summer and all the doors and windows were open.. Both breezes and dogs coming in and out.. That was carols element, that was her home. -catie sue

We can't remember a time when Carol wasn't smiling when we saw her. She was one of the first people to welcome us to Central. She made a lasting impression on our family in a way I am afraid we never got to share with her. We are deeply saddened for the family and we wish we could be there to celebrate her life. We hope the farm will be overwhelmed with love tomorrow. God bless. -The Goertz Family

My very deepest sympathy to Roger, the children, the entire Buck and Stead families for your tremendous loss. Carol and I met a number of years ago, when I hired her. She always had a smile on her face, her willingness to work hard. Every time I saw her after that, she was always very pleasant, greeted me with a smile and hugs and an invitation to come over and drink a beer with her! We always talked about growing up in northern Ohio, close in age and now living not to far apart. We always compared canning stories, as she would tell me how she would get together with some family members and can vegetables. She was truly a remarkable lady and I will never forget her. My only regret is never having that "beer" with her. You will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

So so sorry for your families loss. Hindsight makes you realize how fast life passes you by and you take those around you for granted. I didn't take the time to get to know Carol except as a neighbor. I was much older...24 hours and we could have laughed about that. Sending prayers your way. Ginger Baringer

I would like to extend my condolences to the Stead family. I grew up from them on Cynthia Dr. and although we did not keep in touch, I have fond memories of those days. So to Sharlene, Martha and Phyllis my deepest sympathy in the loss of your dear sister Carol. And though we have never met my condolences to her husband Roger and her children and their families.
