Family-Placed Death Notice

CHRISTOPHER JAMES "JAMIE" BISHOP November 9, 1971-April 16, 2007 Mr. Jamie Bishop, 35, of Blacksburg, Virginia, died on Monday, April 16, 2007 at Virginia Tech. A memorial service and celebration of Jamie's life will be conducted on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Pine Mountain with Rev. Matthew Mitchell and Rev. Wayne Hollaway officiating. Mr. Bishop, son of Michael and Jeri Bishop, was born November 9, 1971, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A graduate of Harris County High School, he earned his BA and Masters degrees at the University of Georgia. He completed further studies in Kiel at a Fulbright Scholar and later returned to Heidelberg, Germany, as a graduate student to teach English. In 2000, he married Stefanie Hofer in Heidelberg, and the two returns to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, to study and to work. Jamie began as a tech assistant, but also taught German there. In 2005-2007, he taught at Virginia Tech, where he was an instructor in German language, He is survived by his wife, Stefanie Hofer of Blacksburg, VA; his parents, Michael and Jeri Bishop of Pine Mountain, GA; his sister, Stephanie Bishop Loftin and her husband Bridger of Athens, GA; his paternal grandmother, Maxine Elaine Willis of Cherokee Village, AR, and his maternal grandmother, Minnie Ellis Whitaker of Columbus, GA; one niece, Annabel English Loftin; one nephew, Joel Bridger Loftin; one uncle, John Gregory Whitaker and his wife Linda of Fort Valley, GA; and three cousins, John, Jeffery, and Kevin Whitaker of Fort Valley, GA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Jamie Bishop Scholarship Fund in Graphic Arts, c/o LaGrange College Advancement Office, 601 Broad Street, LaGrange, GA, 30240.
