Family-Placed Death Notice

IRVIN, Dolores Dolores Doster IRVIN, 91 years of age and a long-time resident of Decatur, GA, left this earth on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. She joins her husband of 51 years, John Thomas Irvin, who passed away in 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Laura (Martin) Parks and her husband, Terry. Dolores was born in Atlanta on September 14, 1921 and graduated with a BS in Commerce from the University of Georgia in 1942. Member of American Rosie the Riveter Association (employed at the Bell Air Craft Plant, Marietta GA 1942 - 1943). Worked as a Statistician in national and state government agencies, including the American Nurses Association in New York from 1948 - 1952. President, Belvedere Garden Club for three terms during the 1960's. She wrote Personals, Profiles and Social Announcements for The Decatur DeKalb News from 1963 - 1979. Editor of The Southside Sun newspaper from 1967 - 1969. Contributed articles and photographs to special Sunday editions of The Atlanta Journal /Constitution, Mature Living magazine, Grit magazine, and The Senior News. A member of the National League of American Pen Women since 1972, and served in all officer's positions including State President. A member of Kiwanis Golden K and a George F. Hixson Fellow. Dolores taught mature women's Bible Class in various Baptist Churches in the Atlanta area for over 50 years and was active in WMU. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Decatur on Saturday, May 18 at 11am in the Chapel at 308 Clairemont Avenue.
