WAGNER, Donald DONALD R. WAGNER HIGHER EDUCATION LOSES ESTEEMED AND AUTHORITATIVE ADVOCATE CARROLLTON, GA - Donald R. Wagner, Dean and Professor Emeritus at the University of West Georgia, died October 4, 2012. Born in Tacoma, WA in 1941, Don began teaching Political Science at then West Georgia College (now University of West Georgia) in 1975 and earned a doctorate in Political Science at the University of Georgia (UGA). He retired in 2011 as a full professor, the first Dean of the first Honors College in the state of Georgia, and Dean of Extended Degree Programs and UWG E-Core. He demonstrated an unparalleled capacity to educate and counsel generations of leaders and thinkers, among his students, his professional peers, and those holding positions of considerable power and influence in higher education and state government. He is survived by his wife, Linda Wagner; three daughters (Sascha Wagner of Baltimore, MD; Jenny Wagner of Kansas City, MO; Chelsea Wagner of Baton Rouge, LA) one son (Jordan Wagner of Kansas City, MO); and a sister, Judy Korepta of Medford, OR. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Carrollton, GA. A reception at the church will follow the service.
