PARKER, Howard L. 1935-2014 Howard L. Parker, of Dunwoody, passed away Fri., Jan. 24, at age 79. Howie was born in Grosse Pointe, MI and attended Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, MI. After graduating from Yale University in 1956 with a degree in Industrial Engineering and a Naval Commission, he served in the Navy for 27 months as the Main Engine Division Officer and MPA aboard the USS Intrepid (CVAII), an aircraft carrier now a museum in New York City. Over a span of 36 years, he sold technical products for GE, Texas Instruments, Warner Electric, Viking Pump and Johns-Manville, moving to Atlanta in 1978 as regional sales manager for Viking Pump. Howie participated in many sports but favored soccer and hockey. He was captain of the Intrepid's soccer team; played ALTA tennis with The Branches Club for many years, and golf at Berkeley Hills Golf Club. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Red Wings. In Brookfield, WI he sang in the Presbyterian Church choir. He worked with young people as a Boy Scout leader, ice hockey and softball coach, and assisted with the high school ski team. Howie combined his love for travel with hobbies of photography and scrapbooking. He had a smile for everyone and was always ready to lend a hand. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie; daughter, Kimberly Bacastow; son, Douglas Parker; granddaughter, Stephanie Bacastow; grandsons, Wesley Bacastow and Cameron Parker; son-in-law, Steven Bacastow; and daughter-in-law, Laura Parker. A Memorial Service will be held on Sat., Feb 8, at 2 pm in the Wilson Chapel of Peachtree Presbyterian Church, where Howie and Marjorie have been members since 1978. A reception will follow in the St. Andrew's Room of the church. Donations may be made to his favorite charity, the Salvation Army.
