Family-Placed Death Notice

ADAMS, Joye Joye Hipps Adams, 89, of Cornelia died Sunday, January 18, 2009, at her home in Cornelia. Born in Asheville, North Carolina on March 11, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Pertha Forster and Charles Crawford Hipps. Mrs. Adams moved to Habersham County as a child. In 1940 she graduated from Brenau College where she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. She taught in the Habersham County schools. She also taught piano and voice students for many years. An accomplished musician, Mrs. Adams served as pianist, organist, and choir director for the First Baptist Church in Cornelia where she was a long-time member. She was also a member and past president of the Cornelia Three Arts Club, and a member of the Tomochichi Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Adams was a leader and participant in the Great Books discussion group at the University of Georgia for many years. Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Judge F. Jack Adams. She is survived by her son Steve Adams and his wife Shirley; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Calvin Stovall; and niece and nephew Marcia and Bill Loyd. Also, three grandchildren, Penny Stevens, Keith Mayo and Lisa Mullins; 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. Acree-Davis Funeral Home, Toccoa, Georgia is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held at Whitfield Funeral Home South Chapel in Baldwin from 4 to 6 PM on Tuesday with graveside interment service at Level Grove Cemetery in Cornelia on Wednesday, January 21 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. David Turner officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts may be made to the Music Ministry of the Cornelia First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 96, Cornelia, Georgia 30531.
