BRASWELL, Lauren Thomas "Sonny" Lauren Thomas Braswell, "Sonny," age 70, passed away at his home in Woodstock, Georgia, with his family by his side on Saturday, November 4th, 2017. Sonny was born October 8th, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was adopted by Lena Josephine Braswell & Selma Allen Braswell shortly thereafter. When Sonny wasn't working in the produce and grocery business, he was either on the racetrack racing his #44 Ford, or in his train room adding to his impressive Lionel train board. Sonny raced on short tracks starting in the early 70s for over 20 years, sharing the track with racing legends Bill Elliott, Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr to name a few. Sonny's passion for trains started at an early age when his father, who worked for the Seaboard Coast Line, bought Sonny his first Lionel toy train. That passion lasted throughout his life, and he amassed an extraordinary 300 square foot train display that kept him busy during his retirement. Sonny is survived by his wife of 40 years, Vickie Gail Braswell, his children Melissa Bryant, Christina Brewer & Allen Braswell, his grandchildren Lauren & David Bryant and siblings Richard Stanley Braswell "Butch," Edwin Fincher Braswell "Junior," Dale Allen Braswell "Big Sonny," & Virginia Louise Eggers, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 11:00am in the Lakeside Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Shannon Mandeville officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 4pm to 8pm. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Park.
