Angela LEVIN Obituary
LEVIN, Angela Walkden "Angie" Angela "Angie" Walkden Levin passed away on Monday, October 30, at age 67, in Atlanta, GA, after a long and incredibly brave battle with breast cancer. Angie was born October 3, 1950 in Norwalk, CT, the daughter of Richard and Katherine Walkden of blessed memory who died many years ago. In 1972 she graduated from Gettysburg College, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, and married her college sweetheart, Jay Levin. In 1974, Angie and Jay moved to Atlanta, where they launched their successful careers and started their wonderful family. From 1977 to 1992, Angie worked for Wyche Fowler as a staff assistant when he was Congressman and later Senator. She made many friends and had many adventures helping people with the problems life threw at them. During this time, she developed a passion for helping immigrants and refugees adjust to life in a new country and city. She also did significant military casework and took great joy in assisting our military men and women. In 1998, she became American Assistant at the Korean Consulate in Atlanta, which started her life-long love of all things Korean. In 2000, she started work at Georgia Tech at the Sam Nunn School's Center for International Strategy, Technology and Policy, founded by Professor John Endicott. Her work included being Secretary of the Limited Nuclear Weapons Free Zone for Northeast Asia; Administrator of the Korea Initiative; and Administrator of the General Ray Davis and Colonel Lesley Callahan Funds. She also coordinated numerous programs and events including a forum featuring General David Petraeus when he was the much-admired US CENTCOM Commander. As a volunteer, she was Secretary of the Southeast Asia Korea US Chamber of Commerce for many years; worked at the World Affairs Council of Atlanta; and became the Registrar of the Atlanta Council of International Relations. She also arranged dinners several times a year through Highpoint Episcopal Church (HECC) to assist a south Atlanta parish with an impoverished membership, and she and her family sponsored several refugee families in the 1980s through the National Council of Jewish Women. In addition to her husband Jay, Angie is survived by her beloved children Andrea Levin Christopher (Michael) and Adam Levin (Paige Dixon); her precious grandchildren Andrew and Alexander Christopher; her brothers Dave Walkden (Bess) and Phil Walkden (Theresa); brothers-in-law Harold Levin and Marty Levin (Carole); nieces Tracy and Dana Levin; niece Katie Walkden (Steve Calla); nephew Richard Walkden (Anne). A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in Angie's honor Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 1:00 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the following charitable organizations: Kiwanis Foundation of Atlanta, P.O. Box 14104, Atlanta, GA 30324 or Church of the Atonement/Highpoint Episcopal Community Church, 4945 High Point Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30342, 404-252-3324.
