Bonnie FANTAUZZA Obituary
FANTAUZZA, Ruth B. It is with great sadness that the family of Bonnie Fantauzza announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother on October 5, 2017. She will be forever missed and remembered by her husband Charles, daughters Jill of Alameda, CA, and Lynne of Decatur, GA., and her grandchildren Sofia, Theo, Geroni-mo, and Quinn, and her sisters Mary Lou McGonigle of Fredricksberg, VA and Jane Makitka of Pittsburgh, PA. Bonnie was born on April 15, 1941 in Pittsburgh, William and Mary Brown. She attended Saint Basil's Elementary and High School. A 1963 graduate of California State College in Washington, PA, and a sister of the Delta Zeta sorority, with a degree in education. She eventually augmented her education with two Masters Degrees in advanced education. Bonnie taught elementary education in Pittsburgh, PA; Atlantic City, NJ; Cherry Hill, NJ; Naperville, IL; and Rockford, IL; before finishing her career with teaching 28 more years in the Fulton County School System of Atlanta, GA. Bonnie's teaching specialty was reading and she eventually served as a reading coach for other teachers. In addition to a number of recognitions as Teacher of the Year over the years, one of her most notable achievements was pioneering the introduction of K-9 Kids. This program used dogs to help children who were having difficulty reading to relax and release their inhibitions to reading. The program was very successful and she was interviewed for magazine articles internationally and TV spots. In addition to her achievements, Bonnie's greatest interests were her family. Not only was she a fantastic wife, but also an incredible mother to her two daughters and grandmother to her four grandchildren. Always interested in health and fitness, she enjoyed running and completed a marathon in the later years of her life. She found joy in many family events, visiting friends, and especially enjoyed many cruises and travels with her husband. Bonnie will be remembered and her life celebrated at a Funeral Mass service at Saint Brigid Catholic Church, 3400 Old Alabama Road, Johns Creek, GA. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Emory Winship Cancer Institute or Saint Brigid's Catholic Church.
