Carolyn RAGAN Obituary
RAGAN, Carolyn When she saw the face of Jesus, He took her breath away. Carolyn Asbell Ragan passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Hospice Atlanta follow- ing a brief illness. Born in 1931 in Atlanta, Carolyn attended Girls High then Smith High and was raised in Grant Park Baptist Church. It was there that she met the man she adored, Benjamin Woodward (Sonny) Ragan. They married in 1948 and raised three children: Steven Roy Ragan, Terry Ragan Thomas and Robin Ragan Helms. Many of her lasting friendships came as a result of two jobs: Secretary to Pastor, Columbia Drive Baptist Church and Secretary to Pastor, Avondale Estates First Baptist Church. As a member of the Mary Clark Chorale she met her precious friend Jessie White. They later formed White & Ragan Interiors, followed by her own successful interior design company, Carolyn Ragan Interiors, where clients became friends. For 37 years she and Sonny have been faithful servants of Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Stone Mountain. She has served the Youth, taught Sunday School, been a member of the choir, served as Deacon , was active on committees and a member of the Seekers Sunday School class. During her 10 day stay at Piedmont Hospital her goals were to turn a frown into a smile and to "pay it forward". Through many messages received by family it is evident this was not a new goal but one that touched many lives over the years. Carolyn is survived by Sonny, her friend and husband of 69 years. Steve Ragan family: Tracy Pack (Andy), Jared Ragan (Nicole) and Jill Ragan (Kenny Crews). Terry and Curtis Thomas family: Jennifer Fowler (Brian) Robin and Jim Helms family: Tyler Swerdloff-Helms (Blake) and Ragan Schmansky (Adam). Great Grandchildren: JJ and Levi Pack; Jaylin and Cole Ragan; Madison, Kenny, Mallory and Kelsey Crews; Jake and Becca Fowler; Miles Schmansky. Siblings: Jean Russell, Kenneth (Butch) Asbell, and loving extended family. Visitation will be on Monday, October 23, 2017 5-7 pm in the Sanctuary at Smoke Rise Baptist Church. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 11 am in the Sanctuary at Smoke Rise Baptist Church. Carolyn witnessed many youth benefit from scholarships rewarded by Smoke Rise Baptist, therefore, we ask that in lieu of flowers a donation be considered to Smoke Rise Baptist Church, Youth Fund, in her memory. Thank you to Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, GA for arrangements. Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Road, Gainesville, GA 30504 is in charge of arrangements.
