Charles Lane DREW Obituary
DREW, Charles Lane Charles Lane Drew, 86, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, entered his heavenly home on January 6, 2018 after his health had declined over the past few months. His firm belief in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Charlie was born to the late William and Jewell Drew, of Atlanta, Georgia on April 23, 1931. He attended North Fulton High School, and graduated with the class of 1949. He also graduated from the University of Georgia in June 1954 with a law degree, and soon began active duty with the Strategic Air Command, U.S. Air Force. Charlie served for two years as a Lieutenant in the JAG Corp, and six years as Captain in the 116th Fighter Interceptor Wing GANG. Charlie was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Anne Brown, on June 9, 1956 in Atlanta, Georgia. They remained strong in their love and devotion to one another in a Christ centered marriage for the next 62 years until Charlie's passing. Charlie was a wonderful father to his two children, and lead them to Christ at early ages. Charlie was an active trial attorney in his early years of practice, and then focused the remainder of his legal career in the worker's compensation arena. Charlie was a founding, Senior partner with Drew, Eckl & Farnham, a prominent law firm in Atlanta. After retirement, Charlie taught Bible study classes, and had more time to enjoy his passions of shooting, hunting, fishing, golf, music, and cooking. Charlie is survived by his wife, Shirley; his son Jay Drew, daughter-in-law Debbie Drew; his daughter Ginny Gilmore and son-in-law Kerry Gilmore; his grandchildren Joshua Drew, Emily Corser, and her husband, Ralph Corser. Charlie is preceded in death by his sister, Billie Chapman and his parents. Charlie will be buried at Arlington Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. on January 9, 2018, with a grave side service. The family gratefully declines flowers, but encourages donations directed to Kindred Gentiva Hospice Foundation, who handled Charlie's most recent care.
