Charlie was one of my Dad's best friends. He used to come to Madison and visit / fish a lot with him. I have a picture of him and Dad sitting in a boat smiling appropriately. God bless him and his family.

To Sallye and to Charlie's children and grandchildren, I want to offer my love and condolences. And to thank you for sharing him with those who were fortunate to be part of his journalism family. I did not know Charles Salter in his days driving The Atlanta Journal's Georgia Rambler across the miles looking for people with stories to tell. But I knew him as a storyteller and one who made a deep connection with our readers and with the people he wrote about. He was kind and generous and a source of humor who brought good cheer to others. May your memories with him bring blessing and help when you need it most.
