MOORE, Christopher Barry "Chris" Mr. Christopher (Chris) Barry Moore of Norcross, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the age of 79. Chris was born a 'Man of Kent' to Ernest and Millicent Moore on February 25, 1938 in Kent, England. After serving in the Royal Air Force, Chris earned an Electrical Engineering degree. He married Jill Porter of Essex, England in 1963. He began his career as an electrical engineer for Plessey, a London based telecommunications company. In 1974, he took a calculated risk and moved his wife and three sons to Montreal to work for Northern Telecom (Nortel) where he helped pioneer the digital multiplex switch that transformed the telecommunications industry. In 1977, he was asked to relocate to Nortel's U.S. headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. He resided in Hendersonville, Tennessee, where he and Jill had their first daughter. He relocated in 1990 to the Norcross area of Atlanta, Georgia, where he later retired. In addition to his professional contributions in telecommunications, Chris will be remembered for his passion for soccer. He collaborated to establish the first youth soccer program in middle Tennessee (MTYS) He spent many weekends as a referee and a supportive father to his four children, all who inherited his love of the game. He and Jill enjoyed raising their family in Hendersonville for twelve years where they frequently played tennis together at Indian Lake Swim & Racket Club. After moving to the Norcross area of Atlanta, he continued to referee while enjoying tennis at Jones Bridge Swim & Racket Club, where he and Jill quickly became welcomed members of the community. Following his retirement in 2003, he filled his time traveling, volunteering at the Georgia Aquarium, PGA tour events, & The Special Olympics and he served as a mentor to Engineering students at Georgia Tech. He was a kind and gentle man known for his British wit, charm and sense of humor, who made everyone feel at ease with his hybrid British/Southern accent. He is survived by his wife, Jill Moore of 54 years, and their 4 children: Andrew (Andy), Stephen, Jeremy and Jennifer (Jenny); their 8 grandchildren: Carson, Amanda, Oliver, Samantha, Brighton, Raleigh, Caleb and Maddox; his sister-in-law Jane Porter; his daughters-in-law: Kristi, Monica, Meredith; and his son-in-law John Rouse. Friends are invited to join in a "Celebration of Life" at Andy Moore's house located at 840 Falls Point Circle, Johns Creek, GA 30022, on Friday, December 22, 2017, between 5:00 & 8:00pm.
