1931 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
KENNEDY, Clyde M. Clyde M. Kennedy, III was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 16, 1931 to Martha DeLay and Clyde M. Kennedy Jr. He attended R. L. Hope and was a member of the first THIRD GRADE CLASS of the new Garden Hills Elementary School. He attended North Fulton High School and was the Valedictorian of the class of 1948. As a youth he loved the out-of-doors, earned the Rank of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow. He attended Georgia Institute of Technology, obtaining a Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Civil Engineering. At GA Tech he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, editor of THE GEORGIA TECH ENGINEER, Cadet Colonel of ROTC, and graduated first in his class. After college, he served as a lieutenant in the 936 Field Artillery in Korea and upon returning to the United States, as a Captain with the 179 Field Artillery in the Georgia National Guard. He went to work for Law Engineering Testing Company. He was subsequently promoted to positions of as Atlanta Branch Manager, Director of Engineering, and President. He completed his 46 year, professional career as Senior Geotechnical Consultant with Qore, Inc. During his engineering practice, he directed subsurface investigations and provided foundation and earthwork recommendations for some 2000 projects from New York to Miami and Charleston SC to El Paso, TX. His specialty was mentoring younger associates. He was president of the Georgia Section, Life member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and National Vice President of The American Civil Engineers Council. Mr. Kennedy was a life-long member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church where he participated as a Sunday School Teacher, Disciple Bible Study Leader, Head Usher, member of the Administrative Board, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Funeral Guild, Parish Choir, and member of the Timothy Sunday School Class. During retirement, he enjoyed visiting with family, reading history and poetry, landscaping, raising flowers, bird watching, and volunteering at Buckhead Christian Ministry. Clyde is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Lee Kennedy, daughters Mary Katherine (Andrew Noel) and Audrey Kathleen, son Charles Daniel, Granddaughter Rebecca Anne Noel, sister Martha K. Gay (John Gay) nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held Saturday September 9, 2017 in the sanctuary of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church 3180 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, Georgia at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends at a reception in Grace Hall following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, attention Local and Global Outreach.
