Daniel PROBST Obituary

PROBST, Daniel "Dan" Daniel "Dan" Robert Probst, 35, died Saturday, November 7, 2015, in Savannah, Georgia. Dan was born in Virginia on November 26, 1979, but was raised in South Carolina. Dan is a 1998 graduate of Irmo High School and a graduate of the University of Notre Dame (magna cum laude), where he earned both his Bachelor (2002) and Master degrees in Accounting (2003). He has been employed at Deloitte since moving to Atlanta 12 years ago, standing out as one of the top performers at the firm. But it was Dan's roles outside of work - those of beloved husband, son, brother and friend -- that were the most important to him. A friend paying tribute to Dan said, "Everything he did, he did like a champion," and it was true. When he married his wife, Karen, whom he loved beyond measure, the couple made it a point to take a big adventure every year they were married. In those five years, they went on safari in South Africa, hiked Machu Picchu, visited Greece, Belize, France, Belgium, and Ireland. Whether traveling the world, perfecting his competition chili recipe, or unironically listening to Hootie & the Blowfish and his other favorite bands, Dan lived large, surrounded by lifelong friends he made everywhere he went. An avid runner, amateur collegiate boxer, and adult kickball all-star, "Coach Dan" approached everything with enthusiasm and always with a smile on his face. His zest for life and his memorable moves on a wedding dance floor will be forever missed by the many people who loved him. Dan is survived by his wife, Karen Balaze Probst, of Atlanta; parents, Robert and Janice Probst of Chapin, South Carolina; brothers Matt (Erica) Probst and Chris Probst; and too many friends to name. A celebration of Dan's life will be held Friday at 11am at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the "Dan Probst Memorial Fund" in care of the University of Notre Dame, Attention: Jamie Barry 1100 Grace Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556. Any checks should be made out to the University of Notre Dame with the memo field reading "Dan Probst Memorial Fund."

I'm saddened by this news. I have too many memories of Dan to write on this page. He was kind, artistic, funny, athletic and a gentleman. We lost touch after high school, but I have kept up with him via mutual friends. I pray for his wife and family that they may come to peace and know that he is above watching out for them. Praying from the west coast...

May god bless you in your time of need. Our condolences and prayers are with your family. While I never had the pleasure of meeting Dan, I know he is a great person that his family is very proud of. Our hearts hurt for you, and you all our in our prayers. His dad, Bob, never failed to tell me a great story about all three of his sons when we met, and I truly am hurt by Dans loss. Even though I never met him I can tell you that I felt like I knew him well from the great stories his dad would tell, like running with the Bulls in Spain! He had a great life, but it ended much to soon.

I have such fond memories of Dan from my time at Deloitte. His obituary is such a beautiful tribute to a guy who made everyone have fun in his midst. It's unimaginable that something like this could happen to a person like Dan, but of course, he made more of an impact in his 35 years than most do in a lifetime. My thoughts and prayers are with Karen and Matt as well as the rest of the family. Sending lots of love your way.

What a great loss! I never knew Dan, but if, as they say, the Apple falls not far from its Tree, then he must have been one tremendous human, as I truly believe he was. My heart-felt condolences to Dr Jan Probst and the entire family and friends on such a monumental loss. My prayers are with the family and friends, and for the dearly departed soul. Sincerely, Ali Mansaray, Columbia, SC.

Please accept my condolences, the Probst family is in my thoughts and prayers. I only met Dan and Karen for a brief moment when me and my friend John were invited to join their ND/Clemson tailgate. It was top notch tailgate and a great time. I'm sure all his ND friends are thankful he put that trip together. He will truly be missed by all.

Our hearts are saddened with the loss of a remarkable individual. Dan was the compass of our group growing up and I am very fortunate to have been able to call him friend. He had all the characteristics anyone could want; and everyone was drawn to him. I have enjoyed re-visiting the photos from our younger days and seeing the good times we all shared. Karen, Matt and the rest of the Probst Family; You are in our thoughts and prayers.

'I have only slipped away into the next room. Everything remains as it was. The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other , that we are still. Call me by my familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way, which you always used.Put no sorrow in your tone.Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be forever a household word that it always was.Let it be spoken without effort. Life means all that it ever meant. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight ? I am but waiting for you for the interval , somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well - nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting , when we meet again. '
