Even though I never had the joy of meeting Mr. May, I knew him through his many articles I collected. What a pleasure it is to read them again and again. Blessings and sympathy to his family.

I was so sorry to hear of Lee's recent passing. We had corresponded on gardening topics several times in the late '90's and a few times after he moved to Connecticut. I just recently read that Lee and Lyn had moved back, living not far away in Marietta. I had thought about emailing him to see if he would like to see some "secret" natural spots at Kennesaw Mtn, but got caught up with other things and never got around to it. And now I'm too late. Our thoughts are with Lee's family...

As a young aspiring journalist still in college at UGA, Lee May was a mentor to me. When I finally got the chance to meet him face to face, he did not disappoint. He was as humble and professional as they come. I continued to follow his career in Los Angeles and beyond. Thank you Lee for paving the way for many and showing us how to be first class professional journalists. May you rest in peace.

Sending your family condolences for a talented writer, whose column grabbed my attention during his days at the AJC and once again on his blog. I treasure the shrimp pie recipe that was published in the AJC years ago!

I am so sorry to hear of Lee's passing. I used to read him back when he was first at the AJC. I enjoyed his insights and comments on the local political goings-on. I came to enjoy his occasional asides into gardening issues when he was supposed to be writing hard news and opinion. I had no idea then, but I eventually became a gardening columnist in one of Atlanta's local newspapers. I wrote to Lee when I saw that he had moved back to Atlanta last year and received a most kind response. He added a lot to this world and will be missed. God bless all his family and friends.

I was delighted to meet Mr. May once and told him I loved when he wrote about mimosa trees since we loved climbing the one in my grandparents' yard. However, we called them powder puff trees. The next time he wrote about them he referred to them as powder puffs and made them sound so elegant! He was a gifted writer and a gracious person who will be greatly missed.

When the main way to read the AJC newspaper was in hand and in print, I LOVED reading the Lee May features. His thoughtful, reflective writing was soothing when others sought to be bombastic. I have missed him for a long time. I send my heartfelt condolences to those who actually knew him, particularly his family.

What a joy Mr. May's columns were--a privilege to read and share. When he bought land in my native North Georgia county, I felt honored to know he loved a place I also loved. To his family: thank you for sharing him with us.
