In his boyhood, Ed enjoyed many outdoor activities including quail hunting with his dog Ben and fishing in the bayous of the Pascagoula River. After high school, Ed attended Mississippi Southern College (now the University of Southern Mississippi) for two years before being called in 1943 to serve his county as a member of the United States Army Air Corps. As part of the 346th Bomb Squadron (99th Bomb Group), in Foggia, Italy, Ed served as a top turret gunner on B-17s. He flew 23 combat missions in the European Theatre of Operations. When he returned from the war, he finished his education at the Georgia Institute of Technology and earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1949. After school, he took a job with the Alabama Power Co. and quite enjoyed his time in the Mobile area. From October 1950 to April 1952, Ed served in the Korean Conflict as an officer in charge of an electrical repair division, on the aircraft carrier USS Siboney, assigned to the Atlantic and Mediterranean fleets. When he returned stateside, he took a civilian job with the United States Air Force Department of Defense as a project engineer. During this time, he traveled to many parts of the world, rehabilitating and expanding Air Force bases, domestic and abroad, including those in Thailand, Taiwan and the Philippines during the Vietnam conflict in 1966. He took early retirement in 1974 and went on become the head of engineering for DeKalb County Water and Sewer Department until 1984. In 1955, Ed married Marguerite Mathis, the love of his life. Together they raised three daughters. Ed and Marguerite spent many happy hours on their farm in Campton, Georgia, where the family enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding horses and hosting many family events. Ed also spent time raising cattle. Those who knew Ed knew that he was steadfast in his Christian faith and believed in a life of service. Over the years Ed was involved with the building committees for three area Presbyterian churches constructing sanctuaries. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Xer Davidson and Edmond Oliver Marlow IV, wife Marguerite Mathis Marlow and son-in-law Roger Paul Hagan (Lynn). He is survived by his daughters Lynn Marlow of Port Townsend, Washington; Cindy Curtis (Luke) of Marietta, Georgia; and Jean Buffum (Dan) of Huntersville, North Carolina.
