JOHNSON, Edwin Edwin Martin Johnson, 86, died Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Vitas Hospice in Duluth, GA. Born in New York City and raised in Boston, he was the son of Edward Johnson and Mary Walsh. Edwin enlisted in the Marines at the age of 20, and fought in the Korean War, earning a Purple Heart among other various medals and commendations. Over the course of his 20 years of service in the Marines, he undertook tours of duty in Southeast Asia, Morocco, as well as numerous US locations. After retiring from the Marines as a Chief Warrant Officer, he worked as a quality control engineer at various corporations, including Herman Miller, Inc The eldest of four siblings, he is survived by his sister Edna McNulty, and predeceased by his brothers Norman and Charles. Edwin is predeceased by his wife, Regina Smith Johnson, and survived by daughter Leslie St. Lawrence, step-daughter Julie Peng, and step-son Tom Jimmerson, as well as grandchildren Meghan Alaniz, Jeffrey St. Lawrence, step-grandson Charlie Peng; great-grandchildren Austin and Katelyn Alaniz, Alex, Branden and Zoey St. Lawrence, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Services will be held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, on Friday December 15, 2017 at 11:00 am. Bill Head Funeral Homes and Crematory Duluth Chapel, 770-476-2535.
