Elizabeth LOWNDES Obituary
LOWNDES, Elizabeth Jean "Betty" Elizabeth Jean "Betty" Lowndes, 98, passed away on November 12, 2017 at her residence, Sumter Place Memory Care, in The Villages. Betty was born on October 13, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan to Earl and Ruth Grounds. When she was 2, her whole family moved to St. Petersburg, Florida. Betty went to elementary and high school in St. Pete and graduated from St. Pete Junior College. She also attended Bowling Green Business University in Bowling Green, KY. She met Frank Lowndes of Atlanta, Georgia at Mirror Lake Christian Church in St. Pete where she was a member and he was the business administrator for the pastor. They married and moved to Atlanta where they raised their two daughters, Jean and Ann. Betty worked beside Frank at their family owned Lowndes Funeral Home until Frank's death in December 1999. Betty continued to live in Atlanta until her move to The Villages 5 years ago. Through the years, Betty was active in several civic organizations: PEO, Pilot Club and Lion's Auxiliary. She taught a ladies Sunday School class for over 60 years - until she was 90! She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and her daughter, Jean Rozema. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Curton (Eric) of The Villages, sisters Dorothy Willis and Earlene Blankley; grandchildren Jennifer Heron, Mary Elizabeth Sprague and Jeffrey Curton and their spouses; 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mount Vernon Baptist Church's Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, 850 Mount Vernon Hwy., Sandy Springs, GA 30327. A memorial service with a reception following will be Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11 o'clock at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Her family will miss her but rejoice that she is at peace and with the Lord.
