Elizabeth TURNER Obituary
TURNER, Elizabeth Elizabeth Ann Withrow Turner, 81, died November 21 in Flower Mound, TX. She was born June 17, 1936 the eldest daughter of Dallas Edward Withrow, Jr. and Anna Virginia Deacon Withrow of Goshen, VA. Mrs. Turner received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA and a Master of Librarianship degree from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She was married to the Reverend Dr. Charles Cason Turnerof Winnsboro, SC, a Presbyterian minister and educator, until his death in 1983. She was a long time member of Central Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, GA. Mrs. Turner began her career as a teacher and librarian at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL where her husband was a professor and administrator. Following a move to Decatur, GA, she began a thirty year career at DeKalb College which later became Georgia Perimeter College. She served in various library positions on two campuses of the college and retired as Director of Learning Resources at the Dunwoody Campus of Georgia Perimeter College in 1998. Mrs. Turner was recognized by her profession with an Honorary Life Membership in the Georgia Library Association and with multiple awards for Outstanding Leadership and Service to DeKalb College and to its Learning Resources program. Always an educator, she established an exemplary library instruction program at the college and served as mentor to many librarians and students. She is survived by her sister, Carol Jayne Withrow Ware of Lewisville, TX, two nephews, Edward Ware of Lewisville, TX and Brandon Ware and his wife Jennifer of Lindale, TX and their children McKenna, Cooper and Garrett. Burial to be in Riverview Cemetery in Goshen, Virginia. Memorial Gifts may be made to the organization of your choice.
