Family-Placed Death Notice

Frances Lelia Kelly passed away at her residence on Tuesday, March 13th. Born in Atlanta on July 22, 1958, she was the daughter of Frances Bryan "Bree" Kelly and the late Leo William Kelly. Lelia attended D. F. McClatchey Elementary School and graduated with honors from Pace Academy in 1976. She was a graduate of The College of William and Mary in 1980 with degrees in History and East Asian Studies and a minor in French, and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She enjoyed a 14-year career in banking with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, primarily in New York City. She moved to Atlanta in 1994 to write and subsequently three of her legal suspense novels were published, with one, False Witness, reaching the New York Times Bestseller List. She returned to banking in 1999 at Wachovia and SunTrust in Atlanta, but was forced to resign because of breast cancer in 2003. Lelia was a communicant of St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church, where her funeral will be held Friday, March 16th at 1:00. The family will receive friends an hour before the service in the church parlor. The burial service will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. Survivors in addition to her mother include two brothers, Leo Michael Kelly and his wife Karen of Atlanta, and William Bryan Kelly of Nashville, TN; one sister, Ellen Kelly Smith and her husband Ian Smith of Carmel, IN; two nephews, Cameron William and Grantland Kelly Smith of Carmel; two nieces, Elizabeth Mei and Lelia Ann Kelly of Atlanta; and several uncles, aunts and cousins. Lelia will be greatly missed by her family and many devoted and loving friends. Please omit flowers. The family suggests memorials to Susan G.
