Gertrude DICKINSON Obituary
DICKINSON, Gertrude "Trudy" Gertrude (Trudy) Dickinson, 92, formerly of Tucker, GA passed away Monday, September 25th as the result of a recent fall. Trudy was the middle of three daughters born to Adolph and Thekla Laue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with a degree in Dietetics. She worked briefly as a dietician before finding her true passion, education. After moving to Atlanta in the early 1950s she became an elementary school teacher, working for many years, primarily in Dekalb County at Midvale Elementary. During retirement she continued her desire to teach by volunteering for over twenty years at Hambrick Elementary, also in Dekalb County. This commitment was recognized in 2007 when Trudy proudly accepted an 11 Alive Community Achievement Award. She was a founding member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucker, GA. In addition to teaching, Trudy was happiest sharing a meal with family and friends, spoiling her dogs, cheering for the Braves or telling a (usually clean) joke. Trudy was predeceased by her husband Royal Dickinson, treasured son Todd Dickinson, sister Marion Conard and brothers-in-law Dr. Robert Conard and Marshall Loewi. She is survived by her son Craig and his wife Adele of Lilburn, GA. Trudy (Gommy) will be sadly missed by her three grandchildren Scott Thompson, Evan Dickinson and Audrey Dickinson. She is also survived by her sister and best friend Helen Loewi of Milwaukee, WI as well as many nieces and nephews. Her family would like to extend their appreciation to those who helped care for Trudy, particularly Jeanetta H., Joylene L. and Peachtree Christian Hospice. As per Trudy's wishes, her body was donated to Emory University. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 4882 Lavista Road, Tucker, GA 30084 on Friday, October 13th at 2 pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church or Hambrick Elementary. Checks should be made out to Craig Dickinson with a notation "FBO Hambrick Elementary" on the front and account number 5361640831 on the back. These can be brought or mailed to PNC Bank, 2355 Main Street, Tucker, GA 30084.
