CHILTON Jr., H. Thomas H. THOMAS CHILTON JR. Horace Thomas Chilton Jr. (Tom) passed away peacefully on January 6, 2014 in Connecticut, where he and his wife Betty Gray Chilton (Betty) had recently moved. He was born on June 18, 1923, in San Antonio, Texas. Ninety years later he completed a life full of business accomplishments, bird hunting, fishing, golf and mentoring his sons, Thomas Gray Chilton and William David Chilton. Tom and Betty recently celebrated their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary. Tom received a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a BA in Business Administration from the University of Texas in Austin in 1947 and was a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University in 1958. During World War II he served on the Navy destroyer, the U.S.S. Gilmer, in the Pacific from 1944-1946. His four-decade career in the petroleum industry began in 1947 at Stanolind Pipe Line Co. in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He then worked for Service Pipe Line Co., also in Tulsa, where he was the Assistant General Manager from 1960-63. In 1963 he moved his family to Chicago to work for Amoco Pipeline, where he was President and Chief Executive Officer from 1971-74. In 1974 Tom and Betty moved to Atlanta where Tom was President and Chief Executive Officer of Colonial Pipeline Co. until his retirement in 1988. He served on the University of Texas Engineering Advisory Foundation Board from 1977-85. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity at the University of Texas and was a long-time member of Cherokee Town and Country Club in Atlanta. He is survived by his wife Betty Chilton of Guilford, Connecticut, sons Tom Chilton of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and William Chilton of East Haddam, Connecticut, and his sister Sue Speck of Kerrville, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in celebration of his life can be given to charity.
