Herbert SHESSEL Obituary
SHESSEL, Dr. Herbert Herbert Lawrence Shessel, 92, of Dallas, Texas, died on September 1, 2017 in Atlanta, GA. He died peacefully at home after a short illness. He had the blessing of a sharp mind and an acute sense of humor to the very end. He was an Eagle Scout who later attended SMU University and Texas University Medical School. While in college, he met and married Madelyn Greenblatt Shessel who predeceased him in 2010. He later moved to Atlanta where he established one of the most successful OB-GYN practices in the city and delivered the first baby at Northside Hospital. He was beloved by patients and colleagues alike. He enjoyed life and in his earlier days was a golfer, scuba diver and world traveller. He suffered an automobile accident in 1985, which left him with a permanent limp and restricted his physical activities. He later turned his attention to bridge and was an accomplished player until the time of his death. He was a lifelong member of the Temple. He was predeceased by his daughter, Jan Shessel, and is survived by his children, Fred Shessel and Gaye van der Eerden, both of Atlanta, and his four grandchildren: Drew and Blake Shessel, Katie and Josh van der Eerden. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Sheila Hutchins Shessel, and his son-in-law, Henri van der Eerden. Sign online guest book at www.edressler.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to or to the Temple. A funeral service will be held Monday, September 4th at 1 o'clock PM at the Temple 1589 Peachtree St NE (404-873-1731). The interment is private. Arrangements by Dressler's Jewish Funeral Care, Atlanta (770) 451-4999.
