James Volney WALDO Obituary
WALDO, James Volney James Volney Waldo, 88, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2017 in Bluffton, SC. The son of Bessie and Ralph Waldo, Jim was born in Oakmont, PA on March 23, 1929. He graduated from Allegheny College in 1951 with a BS in biology. In college he was an active member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and The Allegheny Singers. During the Korean War, Jim served honorably in the US Army Medical Corps. He married his college sweetheart, Marilyn Roehm in 1954 and began a career in the pharmaceutical industry with Upjohn. He later moved to Atlanta with Hoffman La Roche and raised his family there. Upon retirement and moving to Sun City in Bluffton, SC, Marilyn and Jim travelled extensively throughout the world. Jim thoroughly enjoyed his retirement by participating in his favorite activities. He perfected his golf game and won the golf club's Nine Hole Championship one year. Blessed with perfect pitch, Jim also pursued his many musical talents. He was a welcome member of adult choirs throughout his life and in Sun City he was part of the barbershop quartet and a cast member in multiple musicals. Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Marilyn, and two children: James Volney Waldo, Jr. of Tampa, FL (Becky) and Karen Hamilton of Denver, CO (Bob), five grandchildren: Austin Waldo (Hilary), Andrew Waldo (Christine), Rob Hamilton, Chris Hamilton and Virginia Hamilton and great grand-daughter, Claire Waldo. He is also survived by his brother Dr. Ralph Waldo, Jr (Jo), his sister-in-law, Nancy Gray and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters Audrey Micklewright and Ann Reynolds. Jim was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He will be forever missed by his family and his many friends for his integrity humor and generosity. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jim's memory to the .
