Jesse Harold "Uncle Bud" JENKINS Jr. Obituary
JENKINS, Jr., Jesse Harold "Uncle Bud" Jesse Harold Jenkins, Jr., age 94, passed away peacefully at Clear Creek Nursing and Rehab in Mint Hill, NC on Friday, October 13, 2017. He was born on June 22, 1923 in Toccoa, GA to the late Jesse Harold Jenkins and Martha Elizabeth "Bess" Tannery Jenkins. Jesse lived in Westminster, SC, and Clarkston, GA during childhood. After marrying Saralu, they resided in Stone Mountain, GA from 1957 until moving to Charlotte, NC in 2005. He was a graduate of Clarkston High School where his wife later taught Home Economics. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Saralu Carter Jenkins; siblings, Carmen Colombo, Charles Jenkins, William Jenkins and Robert Jenkins. Jesse is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Jenkins entered the U.S. Navy in 1941, served on two battleships during WWII, the USS Iowa and the USS Wisconsin and was discharged in January 1947. He was in active duty in the Atlantic and Pacific. Mr. Jenkins served in battles in the Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. He worked on a rolling Railway Post Office car (RPO) in the early part of his career and then retired as a postal clerk in Tucker, GA after 38 years with the US Postal Service. Jesse enjoyed gardening and was an avid organic gardener before organic became popular. He was an active member of Forrest Hills Baptist Church and Calebs Kin Sunday School Class. Uncle Bud was a true Southern Gentleman and a Christian mentor to many. A committal service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, October 19, 2017 in the Pines Mausoleum Chapel at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 3000 Lawrenceville Hwy., Tucker, GA 30084 with Pastor Keith Hamilton officiating. A visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to FHMV Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1440, Snellville, GA 30078 or to Community Home Care and Hospice, 156 Corporate Blvd., Indian Trail, NC 28079. Condolences may be offered at www.mcewenminthillchapel.com
