Joanne Pacifici "Cookie" Keating Obituary
KEATING (Pacifici), Joanne "Cookie" Joanne "Cookie" Pacifici Keating passed away at her home in Moss Creek Plantation, Hilton Head, South Carolina on October 21st 2017. Cookie was born in Savannah, GA on Dec. 5, 1941 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She graduated from St. Vincent's Academy (class of 1959) and attended Mount St. Agnes College (Baltimore) and St. Joseph's Nursing School (Atlanta). Her nursing career took her to New Orleans and San Francisco where incidentally she appeared, as a nurse in "Bullitt" starring Steve McQueen. Always known as a very sweet lady, she enjoyed the company of all of her Moss Creek friends. An avid runner she ran (15 consecutive years with her husband "Keats" in the Atlanta 4th of July 10k Peachtree Road Race) she ranked by age group in the top female runners in Georgia. Cookie's true passion was traveling. As honorary Vice President of Tug Manufacturing she traveled extensively with her husband worldwide while frequently running races along the way. Her other passion was cruising on their boat "SeaSpray". One of her favorite trips was a two week cruise to Key West, which turned out to last five months. Cookie liked to say that "Keats" was the captain and she was the First Mate so on the boat she would follow his instructions-but, that's the only time she would follow his directions. Cookie was the third of eight children of the late Dr. & Mrs. Joseph Pacifici of Savannah, Georgia. In addition to her parents, Dr. & Mrs. Joseph Pacifici, Cookie was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. James Grady Pacifici and by her sister, Margaret Pacifici. Cookie is survived by her husband John "Keats" Keating, and his son Joshua Keating, one brother, Dr. Joseph A. Pacifici (Karon) of Anderson, South Carolina, and four sisters, Mary Pacifici Rollins (Jack), Maureen Pacifici Smith (David), Lucy Pacifici Froelich (Robert), and Ms. Kathy Pacifici all of Savannah, Georgia and many family members. Special thanks to Nurse Diane, Pat, Sara and Gwen of Hospice. A private memorial service will be held in the Pinckney Family Cemetery, Bluffton South Carolina at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Low country, P.O. Box 3827 Bluffton, SC 29910 Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton is assisting the family with arrangements.
