Joe Little Digby Obituary
MAJ (Ret.) Joe Little Digby, age 80, of McDonough, died Monday, May 14, 2018. He was born June 15, 1937 in Hardwick, Georgia to the late William Ollie and Alma Shelton Digby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dee Large and Patsy Henry.

Joe attended Georgia Military College (GMC) as a high school student and began his Army career by joining the Georgia Army National Guard at the age of 16. He later saw enlisted service with the US Army in Japan, Okinawa, and South Korea before returning to GMC for junior college and a blind date at a coffee shop with a beautiful brown-eyed GSCW co-ed from Hapeville named Marylee. It was then off to Fort Benning, Bamberg, Germany, Fort Sill, OK and Fort Rucker, AL before serving as an Artillery Officer in the Republic of South Vietnam with 6th Battalion 77th Field Artillery ("En Garde"), as liaison to 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment ("Three-Quarter Horse"), 25th Infantry Division ("Tropic Lightning"). He then transferred to the Armor branch, commanded a cavalry troop and taught at the Armor School at Fort Knox, was an instructor at the Signal School at Fort Gordon, and returned to South Korea, before he retired having served 24+ years in the Army.

Joe enjoyed a second career as a manager and trainer in the commercial security industry. Joe was an avid reader, fine baseball player, crack shot and firearms expert, military history buff, and skilled deer hunter and fisherman. He was a graduate of Augusta College and Western Kentucky University. After retiring again, Joe enjoyed many happy years spending time with Marylee and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marylee Heery Digby; brother-in-law William Heery of Bartow, Florida; children, Daniel S. (Deborah) Digby, of Conyers, Robin (Michael) Stanton, of Locust Grove, Bonnie Jo (Della) Digby, of Stockbridge, Joe L. (DaVida) Digby, of Jackson; grandchildren, Sarah and Annalise Digby, Austin and Amber Stanton, Joseph Bruce, Danielle Digby, Benjamin Bruce, Ariel Woodruff, and Katelin, Hannah and Caroline Digby; 9 great-grandchildren; multiple nieces and nephews, and many loved ones and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Rev. Dave Riley officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 PM at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
