Family-Placed Death Notice

PENDER, Joe Joe Neil Pender, 68, of Roswell, GA, passed away Monday, March 7, 2011, after a valiant battle against prostate cancer. Joe was born August 29, 1942, in Hot Springs, AR to the late Buddy and Muriel Pender. He graduated from Hot Springs High School Class of 1960 and received his BS from the University of Arkansas (GO HOGS!) where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Joe started his professional career with Libbey-Owens-Ford (now Pilkington) in 1970, retiring in 2001 as Director of Sales and Marketing. After retirement, he joined Safelite AutoGlass where he was currently working as the Southeast Regional Sales Manager. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Sheryl Haness Pender of Roswell; daughters, Candace (Greg) Yates of Decatur, and Whitney (Shawn) Griggs of Roswell; brother John Larry (Susanne)Pender of Naples, FL; sister, Suzanne (Mike) Lee of Little Rock, AR; mother-in-law, Barbara Haness of Hot Springs, AR; aunt, Ruth "Tweet" Hopkins of Hot Springs, AR; and his loving grandchildren, Sarah Miriam, Zachary Neil and Chloe Alayna Yates, Alexis Jane, Rachel Lauren and Tyler Joseph Griggs. They will sorely miss their "Po". He is also survived by numerous other family members and friends. His passions were his family, especially his 6 grandchildren, his work and the game of golf. He never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone. Memorials may be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth St., Santa Monica, CA 90401, (800)757-2873, www.pcf.org, or the American Cancer Society. A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. I just heard of Joe's passing today. He was an amazing man, a loving grandfather and a heck of a competitor on the links. I only knew him for a few years but he made a lasting impression on me. He will truly be missed.

I just heard about Joe and I am so sorry. Joe was such a positive person, I always had my most fun on the golf course playing with him. A true gentleman, father and grandfather.

I worked with Joe at Pilkington for many years. Not only was he an exceptional boss, he was dear friend. My prayers and thoughts are with the family he was so proud of. Joe will be greatly missed by all.

Cary and I are thinking of you and all the family. We were so sorry to hear about Joe. We have great memories of spending time with yall at weddings, and family reunions. It seems just like yesterday we were all in Fayetteville having fun. We know he is in a better place, without pain.

I was a fraternity brother of Joe's, and a good friend during the college years.
