John Grayson CARTER Obituary
CARTER, John Grayson August 26, 1931-November 13, 2017 John Grayson Carter, age 86, of Atlanta, passed away on November 13, 2017. The son of Gordon and Zelma Carter, Grayson was born and raised in Wrightsville, Georgia. After graduating from Johnson County High School, he attended Georgia Teacher's College. He went on to serve with the United States Air Force in Okinawa. In 1956, he married the love of his life, Gayle Jordan. Grayson worked for the State of Georgia for over 30 years and retired as the Director of Income Tax. After retiring at Lake Oconee, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, serving on the local hospital board, and working with organizations to benefit local youth. Grayson was an enthusiastic Georgia Bulldog fan and enjoyed following high school football. As an Eagle Scout, he was a proud supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. A sweet and generous southern gentleman, he was quick with a hug and a kind word. His gentle sprit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Grayson is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gayle Jordan Carter; their daughters, Becky Veal (Mike) and Jennifer Ferrugia (Victor); and grandchildren, Jordan Ferrugia, Joseph Ferrugia and Barry Stafford. His memorial service will take place at Chamblee First United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at 3:00PM, with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Atlanta Community Foodbank in Grayson's memory.
