Family-Placed Death Notice

LEMMON, John R. John R. Lemmon of Marietta, dedicated husband, father, brother, and uncle, passed away suddenly on May 23, 2013. He was born on November 5, 1944, in Orlando, FL and moved to Marietta in 1986. John attended Edgewater High School (Orlando, FL) and received his Bachelor's Degree from Rollins College (Winter Park, FL) where he was honored as Phi Beta Kappa and he received his MBA Degree from Emory University (Atlanta, GA). He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Ann in Marietta, GA. John served in the United States Army and spent the last 45 years working for Southern Bell, Bell South, and AT&T. John was an avid sportsman and accomplished golfer, mountain climber, angler, marathon runner, and century cyclist. He was most proud of competing in the New York City Marathon, Boston Marathon, and Pike's Peak Marathon, just to name a few! He volunteered countless hours of his time to many of the major running and sporting events in the Atlanta area. Most importantly he loved traveling the U.S., golfing, fishing, bird watching, gardening, drinking a fine glass of wine with his family, and spending weekends with his wife at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. He touched so many lives, selflessly mentored many colleagues, and had countless friends. He truly will be missed by all and our lives will never be the same. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Linda K. Lemmon (Marietta, GA); his daughter, Rebecca C. Lemmon (St. Petersburg, FL); his niece & nephew, Andy Koutnik & Esther Koutnik (Tallahassee, FL); his brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Frank Koutnik & Kim Koutnik (Tallahassee, FL); and his brother & sister-in-law William & Joyce Lemmon (Winter Park, FL). Family will receive friends for a celebration of life on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 11 AM-3:00 PM with a personal remembrance of remarks to occur at 1:00 P.M. at Northside Chapel, 12050 Crabapple Rd, Roswell, GA 30075. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John's name to the ( and/or the Livestrong Foundation ( Arrangements by Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory, Roswell, 770-645-1414.
