Joselyn "Jo" (Tomberlin) McKenzie Obituary
Joselyn "Jo" Tomberlin McKenzie, age 87, of Duluth, GA, peacefully passed away Wednesday September 12, 2018. Funeral services for Jo will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Atlanta with Dr. Charles Stanley and Dr. Anthony George officiating. Entombment will follow at Peachtree Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday September 19, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service in the Welcoming Room at First Baptist Church of Atlanta. Jo was preceded in death by the love of her life, John M. McKenzie of 36 years; brother, Wright Tomberlin; sisters, Lura Handley and Sue Staden; daughter in-law, Debbie Webster Martin. She is survived by her children, Don Martin and wife Darleene and Donna Martin Williams and husband Larry; Wade McKenzie, Karen McKenzie Shadle and husband Jim, Lawton McKenzie and wife Kim; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was affectionately known by her friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "Mama Jo." She was born in Abbeville, GA on July 25, 1931 the daughter of George and Martha Tomberlin. At age 18, after graduating from Abbeville High School she took an adventure to Atlanta, GA to obtain a career in business. She worked for Southern Bell and Southern Railroads and later became an Assistant Branch Manager of Decatur Federal. Jo's passion in life was her devotion to Jesus Christ and her family, and her dedication to First Baptist Atlanta. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Daniel Dubovsky, Weinstein Hospice and Hospice Atlanta for their tender care of their mother. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be sent to First Baptist Church of Atlanta Missions in honor of "Mama Jo." https://www.fba.org/departments/missions.
