Joseph JACKSON Obituary
JACKSON, Joseph "Joe" After a brave and defiant fight battling ALS for seven years with grace and dignity, Joseph "Joe" Jackson, age 67, of San Antonio joined our Lord and Savior in Heaven on Monday, October 9, 2017. He was born March 31, 1950 in Dahlonega, GA to Virginia (Kent) and Samuel H. Jackson, Sr. Joe was raised in Fairburn, GA and was a graduate of Campbell High School where he played varsity football. He was awarded a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering from Southern Technical Institute in Marietta, GA. He had an achieving professional career where he advanced quickly up the corporate ladder working for reputable companies, including Levi Strauss and Carter's, until he became the General Production Manager for a defense contract company producing equipment for the U.S. military. Throughout Joe's life, his passion was cycling (where he completed the MS 150 from San Antonio to Corpus Christi in 2005, 2006 and 2007) with the Roaddoggs. Even though ALS had affected the muscles in his arms and hands, he rode his last organized bike ride in 2014 on a tandem bike. Joe enjoyed spending time with close friends, brewing delicious craft beer for many years. He also had an appreciation for nature and loved being outdoors. Joe converted to Catholicism and was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Joe had a genuine and charismatic persona, where he was the influence on many with his unique way of sharing wisdom and analogies of life. Although he was a man of few words, he made people laugh with his colorful and one-of-a-kind sense of humor, commanding attention with his jokes and storytelling. He wed Lyne, the love of his life, on August 30, 1986 with whom he shared a devoted and passion-filled marriage. He took pride in his family and loved his three beautiful daughters immensely. His passing leaves a tremendous void, not only with his family, but with everyone that he touched throughout his life. He will be remembered as a kind hearted, understanding, caring and compassionate man. In the manner in which Joe fought ALS with poise and determination, he was an inspiration to many. His challenges throughout his battle never affected his character and love of life. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Samuel H. Jackson, Sr.; his brother, Kent Jackson; and his sister, Cathy Sudduth. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Lyne; his daughters, Tami Julka and her husband, Dale of Pflugerville, TX. Brandi Wagner and her husband, Dane of Newnan, GA and Valerie Jackson of San Antonio; his grandchildren, Austin Pittman of Newnan, GA and Torrey Julka and Nick Julka both of Pflugerville, TX; his mother, Virginia Jackson of Fayetteville, GA; his brother, Samuel H. Jackson, Jr., and wife, Judy of Dunedin, FL; Cathy's widower, John Sudduth; Kent's widow, Rosemary Wheeler; and his nieces, Stacy, Kim, Alanna and Jessica, as well as his nephew, Jason.
