MOSTELLAR (Lester), Katherine "Kitsy" Katherine "Kitsy" Lester Mostellar passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. Kitsy was predeceased by her husband of 22 years, Dr. Marvous Mostellar, veteran of the U.S. Navy and a prominent physician at Piedmont Hospital. She is survived by two sons, Marvous "M" Mostellar, Jr. and wife Chong, and William Mostellar and wife Cecilia; seven grandchildren: Sarah Virginia Lindsay and husband Sean, Karen Elizabeth Santilli and husband James, William Mostellar, Jr., Robert Mostellar, Kyle Mostellar and wife Hannah, Phillip Mostellar, and Mary Elizabeth Mostellar; and two great-grandchildren: Fox Everett Lindsay and James Vincent Santilli, IV. Kitsy Mostellar was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 2, 1935, to parents George Nelson Lester Jr. and Elizabeth Vaughan Lester, and is survived by her brother, George Lester III. She leaves behind numerous treasured nieces and nephews on both sides of her family. She grew up in Atlanta, graduated from Druid Hills High School in 1953, and received her Bachelor of Arts from Randolph-Macon Woman's College in 1957, where she became a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Kitsy was a lover of poems, an avid rose gardener and show judge (a Master Rosarian), a prominent member of both the Greater Atlanta Rose Society (GARS) and the American Rose Society (ARS), and a devoted volunteer to numerous causes and her church throughout her life. Her true passion was roses where her efforts to the end led to serving as President of the GARS in 1980-81 and 1990-91, ARS Region 3 Director, earning the ARS Silver Medal in 1987, an ARS Presidential Citation in 2001, and receiving the GARS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. She shared her love of roses and flowers with all and was loved and adored for her charming personality, her faith, and her perpetual optimism. Kitsy noted a verse to share: Memories of the one we've loved, Still cast their gentle glow, To grace our days and light our paths, Wherever we may go. A memorial service will be on Mon, Dec 18, 2017 at 2:00 pm at The Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30305. The family welcomes all who knew Kitsy to join for a service and light reception in celebration of Kitsy's life.
