Kenneth A. Rhyne

1944 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
RHYNE, Kenneth Alexander Kenneth A. Rhyne, 73, of Atlanta GA died suddenly of apparent heart failure on Nov. 25, 2017. Ken was born on Oct. 18, 1944, the youngest son of the late James and Leita Rhyne of Spartanburg SC. He graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1962 and went on to attend Spartanburg Technical College and Clemson University. He always remained a devoted Clemson Tigers football fan. After joining the U.S. Army, he married the love of his life and fellow Spartanburg native the former Linda Eileen McGraw in 1967. Together they saw the world before raising a family. The Army sent Ken to the Defense Language Institute in Monterrey CA to learn Russian before stationing him during the height of the Cold War in West Germany, where he served as a voice intercept operator for the U.S. Army Security Agency listening to Soviet transmissions. After military service, he embarked on a career in the then newly developing computer industry, eventually settling in Atlanta where he worked for Unisys for decades and where he and Linda raised their beloved son Steven. Ken was a man of duty who always supported those around him while shunning the spotlight for himself. Ken is survived by his wife Linda, son Steven, daughter-in-law Alicia, granddaughters Kira, Natalie and Lauren, brother James, and numerous siblings-in-law, nieces and nephews. His memorial service will take place at 2:00 on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 at St. Bede's Episcopal Church, 2601 Henderson Mill Road, Atlanta GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to .
