Laura McCullough Obituary
MCCULLOUGH, Laura W. Mrs. Laura W. McCullough of Duluth, GA died peacefully in her sleep on January 8, 2018 just a few days shy of her 87th birthday. Born in Norfolk, VA in 1931 to Charles and Laura Wharton, she spent most of her young life growing up in Atlanta. After graduating from Druid Hills High in 1948 and attending Ga State University, she worked at Retail Credit in Atlanta where she made many lifelong friends. She was a devoted wife of 51 years to the late Hugh McCullough (Ga. Tech, IM, 1950) and was a wonderful, loving mother to the family she raised with him in Dunwoody, GA. Laura spent some time working alongside her husband before finally retiring with him in 1986. In retirement she was a very active member of the Northside Hospital Auxiliary for over 25 years and was recognized many times for her service. She was a lovely lady who was cheerful in all weathers, fun and adventurous, supportive, loving, and monumentally generous. She was a Christian who will now be reunited with her husband Hugh of Dunwoody, parents Charles and Laura of Atlanta, and brother, Charlie Wharton of Woodstock, GA, who all preceded her in death. She is survived by daughter Jennifer Baker and husband Jim of Canton, GA; son Steve McCullough and wife Amy of Johns Creek, GA; and son Todd of Duluth, GA. At the center of her life were her 4 grandchildren who in return loved her deeply and were very devoted to her. She leaves behind grandchildren Christopher Baker and wife Ashley of Marietta, GA; Lyndsey McCullough of Duluth, GA: and Madison and Murphy McCullough of Johns Creek, GA. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at The Parc at Duluth where she was an 8-year resident. Her time there was wonderful due to her many lovely friends and the care provided by tremendous staff. Laura wished to be cremated. The family will receive family and friends Friday, January 12, 2018 beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son - Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation to the Hope Children's Home at www.hopechildrenshome.org. The Hope Children's Home has cared for over 5,000 abandoned, abused, neglected, and orphaned children since 1968.
