Louise ADAMSON Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

ADAMSON, Louise Louise Propst Adamson died on Tuesday, May 28. She was born on a farm in Lavonia, Ga. to Mary Beasley Whitmire and Lex Whitmire on January 9,1925. She is survived by one sister, Kathryn Whitlow, of Anderson, S.C. She attended night school in Atlanta and had a full time job also, and then changed course when she was convinced that God was calling her to the mission field. She graduated with a Masters in Social Work from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kentucky in the late 40's, and then began working in the inner city of St. Louis, Mo. There she met her first husband, Fred Propst, and they returned to Atlanta in 1957, and he became pastor of the Capital Ave. Baptist Church, which was where the Fulton County Stadium is now. She led the week-day program for the children in the neighborhood. She was also right there when Mayor Ivan Allen stood in the back of a truck with a megaphone, asking the people not to riot, that we could handle the problems a better way. He was convincing and riots were avoided. She continued to serve the Lord she loved so much for 50 more years in the Inner city of Atlanta, having to change churches a few times due to congregations leaving the inner city. The Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church on Peachtree began sponsoring her ministry in 1959, and continued until 2009. The ministry of feeding the hungry still continues on Wednesdays at the Ga. Ave Church on Ga. Ave. near Grant Park, where it has been for the past 40 years. There have been and still are many people involved, including youth and the young men at Second-Ponce in earlier years, as well as women helping her raise children in her own home. Her husband, Fred, died in 1970, and a few years later she married Joe Adamson, who had also been involved with the ministry. He passed in 2007, but she continued her ministry as usual. She has worn out many vans through the years, as much of her ministry was out of her home and her vans. She is greatly missed. There will be a service celebrating her life on June 12 at 2:00 in the chapel of the Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church. at 2715 Peachtree Rd. NE Atlanta. Ga. 30305 and designated to the Grant Park Mission Fund.

Loise was the one who led me to the Lord in 1958, and many others in her long career. I had the honor while I was a teenager in her craft programs at Capital Ave Baptist Church up until 1961 when I joined the Army. She was one of the great people in my early life; and her work and testimony created a love that passes all description. In her the Love of God dwelled.

I worked with Mrs. Propst in the summer of 1958, running Vacation Bible Schools in both black and white areas of Atlanta where they would not have been held otherwise. She was kind, committed, compassionate and a true inspiration.

I only had the pleasure of knowing Louise for the last 5 months as I was blessed with having the opportunity to administer care to her as her nurse. As I look at these pictures it is a blessing to see Louise doing what she was called to do, in her work for our Lord. She was such a kind and sweet lady; she will be missed very much. It was an honor to serve you Louise, and one day I will see you again in Heaven.

"Aunt Louise" as I always knew her even though she was not my aunt was just the dearest, sweetest most devoted woman and losing her is a great loss to family and the community. She obviously loved God and served him and helped so many during her lifetime. Rest in peace, Aunt Louise. I know you are rejoicing in Heaven with all your loved ones who were there waiting there to greet you.
