Marie STARKS Obituary
STARKS, Marie Helen Mrs. Marie Helen Starks (nee Dike), age 99, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 25, 2017. Born in Amity, New York on January 1, 1918 to Bertha (nee Leilous) and Isaac Elton Dike. Marie was the loving and dedicated wife of 52 years to the late Howard S. Starks and devoted mother to her sons, Whitney (Maureen) of Jasper, Georgia and Gregory (Katherine) of California, KY. Marie also leaves behind Felicia Kwadey, her devoted and loving caregiver and blessing to our family. Marie, during World War II, worked as a secretary and also for the Post Office. She married Howard who was from Little Valley, New York on October 11, 1941. They shortly thereafter moved to Miami, just a few blocks from the Orange Bowl, until a few years later, settling down in the Atlanta area for Howard to work for the C & S Bank (now Bank of America). Shortly after Howard's retirement from the bank in 1975, they sold their home and moved to a houseboat on Lake Lanier. They lived six happy years on the lake. They were grateful for the rest and relaxation it brought them along with the great many friends they made of their dock mates. In 1982, when it was time for the couple to forgo their home on the water, they built a new home nearby in Roswell, Georgia. Marie enjoyed keeping busy and wanting to be involved, volunteered at Northside Hospital in Roswell for next twenty years. Marie loved to travel and she did so extensively. She had been to many states, countries and continents and shared that Istanbul, Turkey was a favorite and one of the most beautiful places she had visited. Marie most loved spending time with her family. Whether it be gathered around the dining table playing cards or camping, boating, playing or watching golf. She particularly enjoyed watching The Master's Tournament. Marie had countless friends and through her volunteerism, had touched many lives. Marie and Howard, both in their living as in their passing, will continue to share their legacy of kindness and generosity through the Howard S. and Marie H. Starks Scholarship Fund at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at GSU. We are forever grateful for their example. The family service for Marie will be Wednesday, November 29 at 11AM. Northside Chapel and Funeral Home located at 12050 Crabapple Rd. Roswell, Georgia 30075 is serving the family. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to a .
