Marjorie Lynne BRYAN Obituary
BRYAN, Marjorie Lynne Marjorie Lynne Bryan (Lynne) was born in 1950 and lived most of her life in the Atlanta area. After a courageous battle against ALS, Lynne died on January 9, 2018. She is survived by her loving husband, Mike Hammett, best friend Vicki Strickland, brother Wright and a host of family and friends. Lynne earned both undergraduate and Masters degrees at UGA. Lynne was an educator for over 28 years, both in Special Ed at Buford High, and Art at Buford Middle. She was a devout Christian with a strong faith. Her generous nature was well-known. She was proud to be a founding member and eventual director of a church program to feed hungry children called "Sack Kids Hunger". In her words, Lynne preferred "small towns to large ones, books to TV, musicals to dramas, Coke to Pepsi, biscuits to rolls, the beach to the mountains and teaching art to all my other jobs!" She really enjoyed Halloween in our neighborhood, Fresh Air on NPR, lunch with old friends, surprise visits from former students and a lesson well taught. She could not imagine a world without music, art, dance, literature or dressy black sandals. At the same time, she would stand in the freezing rain to watch a kid play ball. She loved Broadway musicals, especially on trips to NYC. In retirement, she continued this passion by working with Buford teacher Ed McQuade to create stage props for "The Sound of Music" and "Singing in the Rain" and others. A memorial service will be held at Buford First United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 20th at 3 p.m. A "Celebration of Life" reception will be held immediately afterwards in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Sack Kids Hunger program, Buford First United Methodist Church, 285 E. Main St., Buford, GA 30518, A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
