Mary Louise "Mary Lou" Wolff Obituary
Mary Louise "Mary Lou" Wolff, 79, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from natural causes in Atlanta, Georgia. Born on March 29, 1938 in Rochester, Minnesota, Mary Louise was the oldest child of Dr. Luther and Mary Will Wolff. She grew up in Columbus, Georgia, attended Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Virginia, and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts from Emory University in 1960. She received a Master's degree from Emory University in 1973.

Mary Louise will be remembered as an accomplished and inspirational teacher whose forty-year career took her around the globe. She taught at Johnson Elementary in Columbus; the U.S. Department of Defense Schools in Germany and Okinawa, Japan; The Lovett School in Atlanta; and finally, for the Talented and Gifted Program in the Fulton County School District.

She made Atlanta her home and contributed to the community. She served as a docent for Zoo Atlanta, sang in the Peachtree Presbyterian adult choir, was an Atlanta Symphony Orchestra patron, and a long-time Atlanta Braves baseball fan. Mary Louise enjoyed her dogs, gardening, tai chi and yoga. She was also an avid runner and competed in many races well into her 50s, including the Atlanta and New York marathons and seventeen Peachtree Road races.

Mary Louise loved to travel and visited all seven continents and over eighty countries. Her experiences included sitting with gorillas in Rwanda, exploring Morocco by camelback, and cage diving with great white sharks in South Africa (at age 77!). Her adventurous spirit was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Mary Louise is preceded in death by her brother William Anderson Wolff. She is survived by two brothers: Luther Horn Wolff, Jr. and Bruce Giles Wolff; as well as eight nephews and nieces: Stacey Wolff Howard, Christopher Giles Wolff, Luther Horn Wolff III, Andrew Thomas Wolff, Jessica Giles Wolff, Catherine Scarlet Goodyear Wolff, William Oscar Goodyear Wolff, and Charles McKean Goodyear Wolff. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held in Peachtree Presbyterian Church's Wilson Chapel on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Zoo Atlanta or the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
