Mildred Jessie (Rand) Lines Obituary
Mildred Jessie Rand Lines, at the age of 97, died December 1, 2017. She was a strong Christian, totally devoted to her children and her husband. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Edgar O'Connor Rand and her children's families. She is now in Heaven with her husband Alva B. Lines.

Mother had great parents and she enjoyed growing up in Buckhead. The family built a home in 1927 on Piedmont Road when it was a two- lane dirt road. Mother and her brother Edgar Rand had an exciting and adventurous childhood. One of the highlights was family train trips to California to tour the West in the late 1920's. The Rands were members of Central Presbyterian and they helped establish a health ministry to help the inner city poor. Mother's father Fred L. Rand and her mother Mildred, were instrumental in the design and funding of The Rand Chapel at Central Presbyterian Church.

Mother was born May 23, 1920, in Atlanta. She attended NAPS, North Avenue Presbyterian School for her primary and secondary education. She attended Mount Vernon college in Washington, DC. to experience the social and cultural opportunities. A highlight of her time in DC was to have tea with Eleanor Roosevelt along with some of her classmates. She enjoyed her friends, the boys, all the dances, and her music. She married Alva Burley Lines November 18,1940, an Emory graduate. They were married for 73 years and were members of the Cathedral of St Phillip. Mildred had five children, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Mother had many happy years with them all. One of her favorite places was St Simons Island. She and Alva B. would stay at the island for two weeks and then come back to Atlanta. That cycle was repeated quite often over many years. Thanks to Alva B. Lines, and his landmark legal case, we as citizens of Georgia are each owners of and have access to Georgia's protected marshlands and beaches.

Mildred Jessie Rand Lines is survived by her children and family members ... Alva Rand, Marianna, Fred Hudson, Thomas Spotswood, and Lucy Cabaniss. Thomas Spotswood and his wife Collin McBride Lines have lovingly and wonderfully cared and supported Mildred during her elder years as they did Mildred's husband, Alva B. Lines.

Her grandchildren of son Fred Hudson Lines and Elizabeth McDonald Lines are Alexander Hilsman, Michael Rand, Franklin Hudson, and Fred Rand McDonald. Her grandchildren of daughter Lucy Cabaniss Bedell and Richard Bedell are Kathryn Lucy, Elizabeth Cabaniss, and Richard Arthur. Her grandchildren of son Alva Rand Lines are Titania and Egmont. Her great grandchildren of Alexander Hilsman Lines and wife Karin McNair are Harper McNair and Flora Reeves. Her great grandchildren of Michael Rand Lines and Brooks Watson Lines are Eleanor Rand, David Smith, and Parker DuPre. Her grandson Franklin Hudson Lines and his wife Nadya Wasylko. Her great granddaughters Ariyahnna Elizabeth Driscoll, and William Fox Driscoll, the daughter and son of Kathryn and William Driscoll. Her great grandchild, Maxton Spotswood, first son of her granddaughter Elizabeth Cabaniss Evans and husband Daniel Evans. Her grandson Fred Rand McDonald Lines and Katherine Coffey Lines.

Mother's life was purposeful. She believed in Jesus. She raised a family the best one can. She gave support to all, was kind and tender, kept the faith, and was a keeper of the peace. She did a good job and she stayed the course from the beginning to the end. Very admirable. Awesome. Magnificent! She followed the guidelines of her faith and met with great success! A lesson to be learned by all, that should be told to all for the ages.

We all praise Jesus for the long life of Mildred Jessie Rand Lines. The family thanks you Momma Lines for your enduring tenderness and love that you shared with us for years!

The family is indebted to mother's care givers Ora Mae Bell, Sabrina Bell, Patricia Green and the entire 4th floor staff at Lenbrook Atlanta. We also thank Danielle of Hospice Atlanta for her kindness and care given.

Visitation with the family is at 1:00 pm and the service begins at 2:00 pm on Monday, December 11, 2017 at The Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA. 30305. Honor Mildred by gifts to the Coastal Georgia Historical Society, This will help to preserve St. Simons Island's history for the benefit of Georgians.
