Minga Cecil "Push" LaGrone Obituary
Minga Cecil "Push" LaGrone, a cherished husband, father and grandfather, died on December 9 at the age of 90. He succumbed to cardiac arrest after battling Alzheimer's for several years. The despicable disease robbed him of his beautiful mind, but he hadn't let it take away his good nature of the love for his family. Born in the tiny country town of Eoline, Alabama in 1927 he had a happy, albeit hardscrabble youth and finally landed at Marietta High where he loved playing on the football team. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Philippines during the latter part of WWII and came back to graduate from his beloved Auburn where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He was born to be a salesman, first with General Shoe, and then with his own businesses, Jellico Coal and Charcoal in Atlanta which morphed into a large lumber business, and finally as an industrial and commercial real estate broker. He was a conservative who believed that all of us work for what we have, and in the late 1980's enjoyed being the Chairman of the Fulton County Republican Party. He was a member of the Cherokee Town and Country Club and an avid tennis player until his knees no longer allowed it. He was happiest meeting people, regaling friends and strangers with stories and jokes from his bottomless collection, learning new things, traveling and walking the woods of his Dahlonega property. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed chopping wood into his 80's. He was married for 64 years to the love of his life, Novan Teare, and he told her on the day he died how beautiful she was. He was a most wonderful father and grandfather and a true southern gentleman to all he met. He is survived by his son, Glenn LaGrone (Judy), daughters, Dixie Boston (Bob) and Luanne Johnson, as well as grandchildren, Andy LaGrone, Carrie Mead (Oliver), Brad Boston (Mary Kate), Addie Askew (Taylor), Elizabeth Boston, Will Johnson, Anna Glenn Johnson, great-grandson, Walker Boston and special friends, Ellen LaGrone and Sam Johnson. The family would like to thank his loving and capable caregivers from Great Day: Michelle, Thandie, Shannte and Louisa. Raise a glass to celebrate a life well-lived! A service will be held on Friday, December 15 at 3pm at St. James United Methodist Church with a reception afterward at the church followed by inurnment into the church columbarium. Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America in his honor. LaGrone, Minga Cecil "Push"
