Myrtis Griffin Maddux Obituary
Myrtis Maddux died on June 11, 2018. She was born on August 10, 1921 in Clayton, Alabama. She was the first of five children born to Dan and Tera Griffin. She is survived by her sister Mildred Ingram, and her brother Earl Griffin (Betty). She was predeceased by Gordon Griffin and Betty Sue Griffin.

Myrtis met Thomas H. Maddux in Eufala, Alabama. Myrtis served at the Army Air Corps Flight School during WWII. After both served their country, they married and raised two children.

Myrtis and Tom moved to Georgia as Tom worked for Norfolk Southern Railway. The couple eventually moved to Atlanta. Myrtis began her career when her children had both left home. She worked for many years for Sears and in the Business Office of Scottish Rite Hospital. Both Tom and Myrtis retired and spent happy years enjoying their retirement until Tom's death in 2010. Myrtis lived at Brookdale Dunwoody for the following eight years.

Myrtis was a long-time member of Johns Creek Baptist Church. In recent years she attended the Chamblee First Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading biographies and was a lifetime student of American History. She was Valedictorian of her high school class. And, she especially enjoyed gardening.

But, more than anything, Myrtis loved her family. Her grandsons were the joy of her life, and she loved and enjoyed becoming a great-grandmother.

She is remembered as a loyal and loving mother, grandmother, big sister, Sunday School member and friend. She had a twinkle in her eye that will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her.

In addition to her brother and sister in Alabama, Myrtis is survived by her daughter, Nan Griffin Maddux and her son, H. Thomas Maddux (Catherine); her grandsons, Thomas Parks Maddux (Sarah) and Andrew Taliaferro Maddux (Katherine). She has two great-grandchildren, Teagan and Henry.

A graveside service will be held at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Scottish Rite Hospital or Hospice Atlanta. Maddux, Myrtis Griffin
