Orbenia BURGES Obituary
BURGES (Greer Stewart), Orbenia Vivian Orbenia Vivian Greer Stewart Burges, 90, died peacefully in her sleep Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at her home in Lilburn, Georgia. Mrs. Burges was a dedicated Christian. She was an active member of Rehoboth Baptist Church in Tucker, Georgia, and of Gideon International. She was a longtime supporter of the Christian Missionary Alliance in her hometown of Myra, Kentucky. She was most proud of her family. She had four daughters, all of whom lived nearby and saw her regularly. She had seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She had hosted the entire family just a week before her death for an all-day Christmas party featuring a visit from Santa Claus. Mrs. Burges was the oldest of 10 children, born June 20, 1927, to Oscar and Leurina Greer of Pike County, Kentucky. She attended Pikeville College and lived in Augusta, Georgia, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, before moving to the Atlanta area in 1968. She retired as an admissions clerk from what was then DeKalb General Hospital and met regularly with other DeKalb Medical Center retirees. She loved to travel. Her and her husband, Joe Burges, often drove to Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, and south Georgia to visit friends and family. She often accompanied her daughters on trips as well. She was very competitive, especially at Kings and Rummikub, which she played almost daily. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Floyd Burges of Lilburn; her daughters Dianne Hill of Atlanta, Carolyn Carlson of Marietta, Debbie Manget of Conyers, and Aloyce Shaw of Stone Mountain; seven grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren; her brother Ralph Greer, of Waynesboro, Georgia, and her sisters, Charlotte Johnson of Jenkins, Kentucky, Leah Barrow of North Augusta, South Carolina, Joann Brassell of Martinez, Georgia, Donna Dreher of Columbia, S.C., Portia Horne of Lexington, Kentucky, and Rena Osborne of Pikeville, Kentucky. Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bill Head Funeral Home, Lilburn-Tucker Chapel, 6101 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084. The funeral service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rehoboth Baptist Church, 2997 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA 30084. The Rev. Troy Bush will officiate. Burial will follow across the street at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Online condolences may be left at www.billheadfuneralhome.com
