MATTHEWS, Patricia M. "Pat" Rev. Patricia M. Matthews, 75, of Stone Mountain, died January 25, 2018. At her directives, no public funeral rites will be observed. Patricia Matthews' distinguished legacy is one of sincere commitment and selfless service. Through her Foundation for Youth Impact, Inc., Pat Matthews founded the first alternative school and offered counseling, tutoring, technical training and mentoring for high risk youth in her native city of Baltimore, MD. She also held a gubernatorial appointment to the Maryland Commission for Human Relations. For her successes, Patricia received numerous accolades and was featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show in the 90's. After moving to Georgia, Pat served on the DeKalb Family and Children Services Board and provided leadership to Gwinnett's Believe in Me Project serving at risk youth and young adults. An A.M.E. minister, Rev. Mathews devoted much of her time to prison ministry and hospital chaplaincy. She authored a book, "Roller Coaster Ride to Hell God's Prophetic Word to Save His People." Those who cherish her memory include: her son, Stanley L. Matthews, Jr.; grandchildren, Brittany Matthews, Sirrea Powell, and John E. Matthews; other relatives and friends.
